Case Study

In the final show of Eesti Laul I had the pleasure of working with Púr Múdd creating the show for their new single Ooh Aah. This was quite a challenge due to me brainstorming with the artist and their management and the director of the show to create a unique act with the power of the song so we could transfer the energy on TV as-well. So not only lighting design but the whole showdesign of the act this time.

Straight away it was clear that we are going to use rose petals cause the whole cover of the single and all social media images regarding this release were rose petals. During the production of the act we bounced forth and back to either use rose petals as confetti during the "rave" part or to use them as a fill during the beginning falling slowly. it was decided to use them in the beginning.

Next up was to bring some life in to the act so we needed something more than the guys on the stage so we decided on using drumline drummers because it was a great fit with the whole vibe of the track and also with the guys themselves, Púr Múdd has always had their own clean style and we wanted it to carry on.

Due to the raw nature of the end of the track being all about the "bang" it was decided to use some simple pyrotechnics to really give some bunch to the end of the track.
The visuals on the screens behind the guys were inspired by a photoshoot for the single that included neon tubes shaped like a triangle.

To add some more graphics for the viewers behind the TV on-screen, visuals were used as overlays on top of the live image to even more emphasise the phrase "Ooh Aah".
Lighting was matched with the vibe of the track from the beginning of being calm and cool to the total "rave" vibe of the end. Also we wanted to avoid the "traditional" lighting of the show, no white front lights etc. the lighting was directed by me and programmed by the local lighting designers. The result was not ideal but for the ideal result we should have had more time to program the show but nevertheless it did the trick and gave out the "punch" required.

The whole show was prepared in a software called LiveEdit to sync with the camera team and a have simply understandable timeline it is also collaboration friendly so it was really easy to make changes to the track whenever anyone needed to edit or re-time something.

In conclusion great act, definitely challenging for everybody but definitely rewarding as-well and an act that differentiated from every other performer on-stage.

Big Thanks and great job from everyone who was working with us to make this act happen.
